Churchill Downs

Known as the home of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs Racetrack conducts Thoroughbred horse racing in Louisville. Over the course of three centuries, the track has completed several massive renovation projects to modernize its venerable grandstand and clubhouse and to accommodate its more than 165,000 guests on Kentucky Derby Day. The spires were designed by architect Joseph Dominic Baldez and were built in 1895 – they shine across the world’s most legendary racetrack each night.

Big Four Bridge

The Big Four Bridge crosses the Ohio River connecting Waterfront Park to Jeffersonville, Indiana. A treasured destination in our park and our city, the bridge is the perfect spot to watch the sunset.

Constructed in 1895 as a railroad bridge, the Big Four Bridge first provided rail access for freight and passengers traveling between Louisville and Southern Indiana. The bridge operated until 1969 when it was decommissioned, the ramps removed several years later.
